The following words are said to be found on the wall of Mother Teresa’s Home for Children in Calcutta (some say they also hanged in the old lady’s room) – and I think there are as appropriate today as they were when they were posted on those walls:
· People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
· If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
· If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
· If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
· What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
· If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
· The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
· Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
· In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
-Mother Teresa 1910-1997
Now listen! I want to close off this year by saying something that other people may think is ridiculous, but I would say it anyway!
I want to suggest that we develop, write down and commit our new year’s resolutions before we take our holiday break. Now I know some people will caution us and say that new year resolutions don’t work. But I would still make the suggestion anyway!
Others would even go as far as referring to a recent research that shows that only 12% of people who set new year resolutions actually achieve their goals. And that Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, a system where small measurable goals are used (lose a pound a week, instead of saying "lose weight"), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends.
But you know what, I would still suggest, lets commit to our dreams anyway. But Why Now! Why do it before the Holiday recess. Because I want us to take full advantage of the Power of the Mind! Our subconscious minds are said to work better when our conscious minds are having a break. Now remember that is the part of us that connects us to Higher Power! I cannot think of a better and longer period to take advantage of this Power than during the long Holidays.
Now I know some people will tell us that this crazy stuff about the Conscious and subconscious mind is all BS! I have no intention whatsoever to herein try and convince anyone that the Power of the Mind concept work.
But there is a lot of times where I really battle to solve a problem (say like in mathematics or even to recall something from memory) – and out of the blue some other time when I am list expecting – out crops the answer. I know you can at least attest to that one. But even if that does not mean that the solution comes from the subconscious mind, but I still say lets tap into that power anyway! |
