If the miraculous episodes of the past few months cannot inspire us to pronounce those words, I really wonder what will. Why so? Because I heard Obama say “Don’t just believe in my ability to bring about change in Washington, but also believe in yours.” Yes I heard him. His message was loud and clear – and that is why today I want you to join me and make these resolutions a reality for you and me. Please join me and thank the Obama-mania because:
Now I believe, more than ever before, that change is not just everything but it is the only constant thing. Today I can safely stand on my one front foot and say: It is possible for me to change myself. It is possible for me to change my environment, my direction and eventually to change my destination. Alas, for today I know - it is possible for me to change the whole world. If Obama could believe and do it, what could stop you and me, beside our imagination? Didn’t we learn somewhere that: “What thou believeth, thy will accomplish”?
Now I believe, more than ever before, that in future I’ll wipe out any challenge which will stand on my way. From now on, life will have no detours but just humps. From now onwards, red herrings will no longer intimidate me. Yes I know at times some obstacles will really appear insurmountable - but my resolve to fight till the end is even stronger. From now on, whenever I face problems, I will remember Hillary Clinton’s fierce fight and… Oh my God, I will always keep John McCain’s gracious acceptance speech in my mind. If Obama could do it (despite the death threats), what could stop you and me from living our lives to the fullest?
Now I really believe, more than ever before, that I am also highly gifted and talented! Now I sorely believe in my unique skills – invariable now I also know that no one can imitate my handwriting, no one can mimic my thoughts, my feelings, my taste and my style – in truth, now I really believe that High Power has already provided me with every tool I will ever need to work towards my dream. Now I believe my acres of diamonds have always resided within me –albeit dormant! If Obama could draw within himself such courage and resilience, what could stop you and me to draw from within just enough energy to venture into our long abandoned dreams?
Now I, more than ever before, believe and willingly admit that no person is more special than another in God’s eyes. Yes, some people will cross the finishing line with as Nobel Peace Laureates, others will reach their summit lifting above their heads golden Grammy Award’s trophies, and yet others will become renowned philosophers, artists, philanthropists etc. In the past, I always thought it was all unfair, but now I believe it is all according to plan. My time has come to shine and, more importantly, my time has come to show the world what Higher Power brought me to this world to do. If a just recently unknown young Black-African American could become the President of the US in just less than five years, what could stop you and me from fulfilling our Divine Purposes on this planet.
Now I, more than ever before, believe that help is always at hand. Now I believe my birth place was never a coincidence, neither was my peculiar upbringing misguided. Now I am aware that there is a strong reason why the Universe put me exactly where I am today – I am now positioned at the most appropriate space and time to excel. God has provided me with the most appropriate people (family, friends and work colleagues) to help me fulfill my dream. Now I no longer need to wish that I was American, white, gay, Christian etc. If Obama could assemble the best team to get him in the helm of the #1 world superpower, what could stop me and you to find the right people to help us achieve our comparable mediocre dreams?
Now, I believe change has finally come and my world will never be the same again! Time has come for me to put my plans into place. If yesterday I could not lounge my project, now I can! If yesterday I could not change my boring job, now I can! If yesterday I could not embark on my dream career, I could not implement my business idea … and I could not amass enough guts to ask my boss for a raise, now I can! If Obama could become what South Africa’s own icon, Mandela, calls “an inspiration to people all over the world”, I swear to God nothing can stop me and you to be the change agents we were always meant to be!
Why not heed to Obama’s call to believe in our own abilities to bring about change to our small worlds. Let us bring about change to our communities, our families and – more importantly – let us bring about change to ourselves! We can do it – and let’s do it now! |
